Joe will be pleased that Metropolis has been mentioned

Quite so, Karoline!
Metropolis - Absolutely! It's one of the greatest films ever made.
The Day the Earth Stood Still - Yes! It's a science-fiction classic
Forbidden Planet - Yes! It, too, is a science-fiction classic.
Planet of the Apes - I'm not into simians and hence didn't like this film.
2001: A Space Odyssey - Absolutely! It's one of the greatest films ever made.
Alien - I wasn't inclined to watch it, so I can't say. Its publicity screamed "pop culture" too loudly.
Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back - After the first "Star Wars" film, which I found childish in the extreme, I vowed never to watch anything further coming from that franchise.
Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior - Juveniles whose tastes run to car-chase films will like this. It about put me to sleep.
Star Trek II: The Wrath Of Khan - I watched it. It's mediocre at best. Don't bother. Watch the original television series instead.
Blade Runner - I wasn't inclined to watch it, so I can't say.
E.T. - It's a film for little kids. The "kids save the world" genre just isn't my thing. I'm sorry I watched it.
Tron - I've not seen it, but I'd like to.
Back To The Future - I watched it. See "Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior" above.
Brazil - I've not seen it, but I'd like to.
RoboCop - I've not been inclined to see this film.
Terminator 2: Judgment Day - I watched it. See "Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back" above.
Ghost In The Shell - I've not seen this film, but I'd like to.
The Matrix - I watched it. Its potential for being a worthwhile film was destroyed thanks to one over-the-top scene employing gratuitous violence.
Primer - I've not seen this film, so I can't say.
The Incredibles - It's a children's film. I wouldn't even waste my time on it.
Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind - I've not seen this film, but perhaps I should.
Children Of Men - I've not seen this film, but I'd like to.
Moon - I've not seen this film.
District 9 - I've not seen this film.
Inception - I've not seen this film.
I find the inclusion of seven - seven! - films from the past ten years to be ludicrous. It's merely a marketing technique, designed to attract and hold an audience which was in early childhood prior to the year 2000. In short, it's to make young people think that Web site is really neat.
Mind, there's no accounting for taste. It doesn't matter what I think of a film. If you like it, it's all good. Thanks for posting that link, Karoline!

Joe: You might like Moon. I suggest you try that. I see your tastes run like Leafer's. You guys are into the good but not so popular films (which is good! I learnt a lot of films I haven't heard of!)
Moon is one of those sleeper hits...it's not very popular..but has a hidden cult following. I haven't seen it but the way Leafer describes it, it does sound really good. He even has the blu-ray
If you want to see Children of Men, I STRONGLY suggest reading the book first! it's so much better than the movie. The movie is good, but does not do the book justice.
I myself have seen:
Metropolis - seen bits and parts..will have to watch it in full!!!
Planet of the apes - meh it's ok.
The day the earth stood still - OMG I seen the remake..I should be ashamed.
2001: I will never trust a machine with a name. Ever.
Alien: Great sci fi thriller. But will not go past the second film
Star Wars: I love star wars. EWOKS!
Mad Max: Liked it. But only that one. the others tanked.
Blade Runner: Classsssssssic! classic classic! ahem.
ET: yeah it was a kiddie movie..
Back to the future - ehh..just for laughs
Matrix: had potential. Then the romance screwed everything up
Incredibles: liked it. it was cute.
Primer: this was the most weirdest one I've seen.
Children of men: liked it.
District 9: liked it
Inception: want to see it, heard a lot of good things.
I haven't seen the others that were mentioned. Maybe I should watch Moon.

Re: Top sci fi movies you must see
I'm surprised they haven't mentioned Event Horizon. Or Sunshine. Those were good sci fi movies
Aha!
Thank you, Karoline and Vicki, for your recommendations and suggestions! The Miracle of the Internet has made it possible for me to watch whichever films I choose. All I have to do is go to the right Web site. It's µTorrent to the rescue!
